I was invited to play a round of mini-golf at the Seekonk, MA location of Monster Mini Golf… and we had a great time! For weeks I’d planned to have a date with Dave, but when he bailed (for work), my mother-in-law stepped in and made a lady date out of the afternoon.
With Addie in tow, we stepped into the dark venue and wandered a bit before an employee came out- I’ll admit I was a little taken aback by the small (kind of off) and the empty front desk, but when the young woman named Ryeisa stepped from a party room, I knew she had been hard at work (I’ve done my fair share of kids’ parties!). She offered me a club, and my mother in law, and even a small one just right for Addie- totally unexpected! Her warm smile and a gesture led us to the start of the course.
Business was steady, but it was really nice to laugh with other goers about how bad we were, or how good our kids were. Addie LOVED all the lights and art, and even said “hi” to many of the other-worldly beings that were a part of the decor- including a ghost who, with the air blowing on him, actually gave me the chills in a non-threatening way. Noticing the other guests, I was impressed with all the smiles- I myself was laughing the whole time- I’m kind of awesome at mini golf (take that as a challenge, Reader- I’ll even treat you to a game!). Parents with kids, couples varying in age and girlfriends just spending the Saturday afternoon together were all surrounding us.
We moved through the course at a slow pace due to Addie’s ability to miss the ball more than reasonably expected, as well as her constant wandering off the course to say “hi” to unreal ghoulies and goblins… but no one seemed to mind- not even the mother/daughter pair that caught up to us by the 7th hole. I think the atmosphere being so unique gives people so much to look at and experience- it makes people feel like “what’s the rush?”
The DJ booth boasted both music and prizes for trivia questions, like what’s the name of the doll in Child’s Play? (If you don’t know the answer, you’re not old enough to be on a computer alone. Or wait… am I that old?) It was cool to actually forget what you were doing and listen to try and win- I’ve never experienced such an interactive mini golf experience.
As we were leaving, Ryeisa was there to take our clubs and with her beaming smile apologized for leaving the desk and not being there when we arrived. Although first impressions are only made once, they’re not lasting. This young lady’s commitment to customer service was clear, and I was glad we Martinka ladies (ranging from grandbaby to mom to grandma) all had a wonderful afternoon.
Being that it’s the appropriate month for such a theme, Monster Mini Golf in Seekonk is offering three prize opportunities for those of you who go to play and are in costume… be entered to win a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, iPod Touch, or $50 gift card just for showing up in your Halloween finest! Their hours will be extended this holiday Monday from 12-6pm (though they are usually closed Mondays). Normal hours are Tuesday through Thursday 2-9pm, Friday 2-10pm, Saturday 12-10pm and Sundays 12-8pm… write that down because they are hard to remember weekend times.
Especially for parents and caretakers, I suggest you hit up the course during the week- it’s a great place to bring the kids as a new experience, and I feel like every age group from 2-100 will find something enjoyable, even if it’s off the course. There are a number of arcade-style games, including my favorite: skeeball, which offer tickets that can be traded for prizes! And if you’re not up for the one-on-one, Monster Mini Golf offers birthday parties with multiple packages to choose from. The staff takes care of the clean up- you bring the kids… sounds pretty perfect to me- and the venue could not be more unique!

Personal tip: The entrance is tucked away behind the PriceRite- but there’s plenty of parking back there. I will admit that the location could use more signage, as it’s both minimal and what’s there is small. Keep driving past the delivery trucks to the back, and you will find yourself in another world of monsters and mini golf!
Happy golfing!!!!
I was given a free game of golf in exchange for a review. As usual, all opinions are my own and are not swayed by outside sources.
