Dear Adelaide,
This past weekend we lost the family cat. His name was Morgan J, but you only knew him as “Kitty”.
As I’ve scrolled though our pics of Morgan and you, you have repeated, “kitty, Kitty. Mmmhmm. ::kiss::” It breaks my heart.
He was the sweetest of boys, and as it is fresh in my mind, he was 17 years old and passed away on the 17th of the month. This used to be my lucky number… but now I just think it’s a number of significance. You, my dear girl, were born on the 17th of the month- in case you forgot that!
Below are some of my favorite picture of Morgan… but here are some things I want you to know about him: he didn’t like Carter when he first came home… but one day he snuggled in and it was brotherly love ever since. He was the same way with you- Morgan was unsure about you at first, but as you got older- he would venture near you and always let you pull his tail and give him pats. He showed you nothing but love, and in the 6 years he was in my life, he changed my acceptance of cats to love.
I hope you have some memory, somewhere inside you of the Burmese kitten who would yowl all night, poop on the Christmas tree skirt and force himself into a snuggle whether you liked it or not.
Close your eyes and try to remember… love,
Mom

My heart is broken for you, for your family. I know this pain of losing pets too well… it is beyond words. I pray for your peace now, and know that the memories will bring tears and giant smiles, too. Our pets never want us to be sad. They know when it’s time. They know so much more than we humans. They know their spirits live and love and enter our lives just the same. But now is so so so hard. I know. You will give Morgan LIFE for Addie because you know the power of words and memories and laughter and love. You know. For now, I cry for you and give you the only thing I know… love and KNOWING this pain and living with perfect, perfect memories of my beloved animals… xox

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is one of the hardest things. I still cry sometimes when I think about my cat. I loved him so much. I had him from 3rd grade to age 22! One really healing thing I did was I drew a picture of my cat. It was so healing to sit and get into the groove of sitting still and remembering all of the subtle details. Maybe you can try drawing “kitty” with Addie. Sending you a big hug!! xoxo

That is a great idea! She keeps sending him kisses and pointing to the couch where he used to sleep. I feel terrible for her not understanding that he isn’t coming home.
