“I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”
When opportunities come knocking, sometimes it’s harder to hear… this time, it was a shout in my ear! On September 27th, the Jimmy Fund Walk in Boston is coming- with options! There are routes for all levels, which makes it the perfect opportunity for you to join in and give back.
How?
By joining the walk (you can even do the walk virtually!), you are also fundraising. Through the money you raise, you’re helping support exceptional patient care, as well as the flexible funds that allow future research discoveries to revolutionize cancer treatments both nationally and around the world. Ninety cents of every donated dollar goes to the cause, assisting with things like insurance gap, clinical treatments, clinical trial support, and state-of-the-art equipment. The funds are applied to new research, infrastructure and technology, as well as helping advance Dana-Farber’s signature patient care and family support. Dana-Farber is known for their patient programs, such as support groups, nutrition education, the pediatric “Back to school Program,” fitness classes, creative arts programs, and patient and family resources. There are also some amazing, unique aspects that your fundraising dollars go towards, like the Jimmy Fund Clinic toy closet and Dana-Farber Mammography Van- which helps care reach more communities.
For me, this last aspect resonates deeply in me. As I’ve written about before, one of my doulas, Eria Shea, just passed away from stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer. She was diagnosed at 14 weeks pregnant with her miracle baby, Ella. Erica’s ability to teach me so much about life and faith through her illness pushes me daily… which is why I am walking. There are families out there who need support. Patients who need care… and access to said care. There is so much more research left.
And I can help. You can, too.
Join me on September 27th in Boston OR as a virtual walker. There are 4 courses to choose from
o Hopkinton 26.2-mile
o Wellesley 13.1-mile
o Boston College 5-mile
o Dana-Farber 3-mile <– I will be doing 3 miles so I can get back to Millie sooner!
All routes finish at the Copley Square finish area in Boston where walkers will enjoy live music and food…and you can save $5 off registration with the code BLOG!
Fundraising can seem daunting, but I promise you the tools are there to help you achieve your goal, and raise the funds that are vital to the research and patient care happening at Dana-Farber.
We are all connected to cancer in some way, but we can all join the fight too! Participating in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk is a wonderful way you can help support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. And if you cannot make it to Boston, you can still participate! Look here for more information on participating as a Virtual Walker. Lace up and take steps toward a cancer-free world by participating in the 2015 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk!
