This is our first back-to-school year- things like clothes shopping, menu planning and scheduling are key- all things my Type-A personality lends a great hand in, except in unfamiliar territory. This year is going to take a lot more planning. I’ve found that to keep 4 people on schedule takes a lot of work ahead of time, and I found a great assistant to help!

 On a recent trip to Target for school supplies, I pulled out my planner and found a million things written with very little discerning information. The what needed more… mostly the who. I’m big on color coding, but the days of carrying around different planners for different people, or highlighters, corrector fluid and different ink colors has long passed. I need a simple solution for our everyday. Our very busy every day.

And they’re really handy around the house, too! As we’re packing up to move at the end of September, all of our boxes are marked with a different ink color- ensuring all the ones with red are packed facing out. Of course, this means that anything for the kids will be readily at hand. This means the most to me because having friends and family help us load up means we won’t touch every box- making sure the kids’ things are most accessible means that they will get their comforts first. Their clothes, toys and bedding are the first things we will set up in our new home- making it as comfortable as possible for them.

Big changes are hard, but being able to make the kids feel better just by being more savvy with my color-coding skills truly makes my days easier as they pass!

    • Oooh! I like that- personal color coding worked for me for a while, but I had to carry a million pens with me- no joke. Now I just list our items in order of importance and color-coded by person. You would think technology would solve this, but I think writing everything down is just that much better!

  33. I remember when I was in Jr. High and I had erasable pens. I loved them and wouldn’t go anywhere without them, even though they really didn’t erase anything and only dug holes in my paper. Now these pens, wow! I’m impressed! My kids love to use pens to do their homework (we homeschool) but they are still young enough that they are making a lot of mistakes. I think I’m going to pick some up for the kids! They can get their workbooks done and erase the mistakes to fix later. Love it!!
