Caring for a newborn baby: You’re Already All They Need

Within moments of her being in my arms, she was calm, her sweet rolls curled up into my own. The culmination of 36-hours of labor, the extreme tiredness of the both of us… and yet, here she was, the only one sleeping, skin-to-skin on me.

Skin-to-Skin

Also known as Kangaroo Care, it’s the contact of your diaper-only baby, on your bare chest. It’s been used often for premature babies, but more and more birth experts are finding that this act is extremely beneficial for all babies. After birth, the act of skin-to-skin contact regulates heartbeat and body temperature. It is a bonding experience that cannot be synthesized.
