This year I wanted to go all out on my holiday-ness. I decorated my mantle (eeek, I have a mantle of my very own!), set up a massive, almost alarming, Santa moose on my front lawn, placed candles in each window, and made fabulous Honey Maid houses with the kids. I was sure that my spirit was singing on high, but I needed to step up my stemware game!
I went shopping for some fabulous glitter and gold, but none of the glasses were what I was looking for, so I opted to spruce up some of my favorites and add my holiday signature drink to them: Vanilla Cranberry Vodka with Sparkling Water. A drink easily known for its light, delicious taste, but also for its lite features- thanks to being mixed with my own cranberry raspberry sparkling water made from the SodaSteam Power® Automatic Sparkling Water Maker. Creating my glasses was easy, but took a few days for drying time- so start ahead of your holiday gatherings by about a week (these are great gifts, too).
Holiday Glitter Wine Glasses:
What you will need:
Wine glasses
Glitter
Foam brushes
Foam pouncers
Dishwasher safe découpage
Metallic dishwasher safe glass paint
To begin, gather your favorite wine glasses. I chose inexpensive, larger white wine glasses. These gave me ample room to pour any drink in, and the chunkier, dishwasher-safe glasses are easy to paint. Begin by using rubbing alcohol to clean them thoroughly- this way the paint and glue will stick.
Pour your metallic paint (I chose gold) into a cup so you can easily reach in with a pouncer.
Begin pouncing your dots on the body of the glass in any way you choose. I just randomly added them here and there until I was satisfied in the coverage of the glass!
Paint the stem of your glass with your découpage using a small foam brush. It should be a healthy layer, but not too thick as your glitter will slide. If your layer of découpage is too thin, it will dry before you can glitter the whole stem.
Quickly pour out some glitter onto the base of your wine glass and the table and spread with a pouncer.
Once your glasses are dry, go over them with another layer of decoupage to seal them. Make sure you go just above the line of glitter where the stem meets the body to seal it. Let your glasses fully dry before using!
*TIP* Choosing different colored glitters means your guests will have an easy time keeping track of their glass!

I never gave it much thought before but alcohol probably would be the best way to clean glass before painting it. Your glasses came out beautifully

They are! I actually hand wash mine, but they go in the top shelf of the dishwasher with no issue, as well!

These are so pretty! I like how you used different color glitter – it could be a substitute for drink charms if you used enough colors! Great recipe with your SodaStream Power, too! [client]

What a fun idea for the holidays. There’s a terrific craft for kids and then us moms get to use what they made to relax with a glass of wine. A win-win for the whole family.
