As we come to a close on the year, I take a moment to reflect on this blog challenge.
I loved this challenge idea because it gave me something specific to write about every week, but in truth, I don’t need more ideas to write about… sometimes I feel like I need less! I am, quite simply, motivated and determined to write as it is. Perhaps writing was my unrealized, or unrecognized, dream.
As much as I love to write about everyday life- food, beauty, crafts- I’ve been finding that there is so much more in me that I want to write about. So much more that needs to be said.
I recently wrote about an online course I was taking: An Intro to Racism. This was made for me: a white woman. I’ve known mean. But I’ve never known racism. I don’t know that I ever will… but I do know that I owe it to my family, my children, the future- to know. To figure it out. To play a part more than blissfully ignorant.
I need to do more… because.
Because I have a friend whose son deserves better from his own [extended] family.
Because when a line in a favorite Christmas movie goes like this, “You’re gonna shoot your eye out,” no one is concerned that white boy might get shot to death for having that BB gun.
Because when a white kid can be so rich, he doesn’t need to pay for murder. Or escaping the country.
Because I have known other privileged white women who, in their 30’s, hold grudges for reasons I do not know. Because there are people who have time for that.
Because there is a lot of injustice I don’t think we know about, and we have a privilege to do something about it.
Sure, my focus remains on things I know… homeowning, food, crafts, fitness, breastfeeding, cloth diapering… dwarfism, of course… but there is more to me. More to this. So much I need to know. So much I think we can do better.
So… these next 52 weeks will not be a challenge, specifically, but a goal to read more, do more, share more.
Thank you Chasing my Halo, for taking much of this past year with me! You are amazing, and I can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store for both of us!
Check out my resolutions… coming soon! And share your own… what’s ONE thing you hope 2016 holds for you?

I wish I had continued on this journey, I had so much to write about, but unfortunately in the scheduling of life, the blog stood alone, and unwritten for me. Not next year! Lets see what the road ahead leads us all to! so proud of you for realizing that writing is what you are meant to do! (Besides being a mom and a wife!) Love you!

Although I am a White woman I have had bigotry and hate thrown my way because of my religion (I am Jewish)–it is not a pleasant thing to have happen. Perhaps because of it I tend to be much more tolerant of others and their differences. As for holding a grudge—it takes a long time–but once I’ve had it up to my earlobes–I will just walk away and never have contact with that person again–but it takes years for me to get to that point.

Anger for a reason, I understand. When you are just mad and never talk to the person… I’ll never get that.
And I hear you- my father was Jewish. I remember someone once called me a “kite”. I didn’t know whether or not to laugh at their ignorance, or cry, because I knew what they meant.

Great post! I once wrote about so much more on my website. Now my main focus is spending tie with my littles. I will get back to writing more when my kids are better. We all have to figure out our priorities for ourselves 🙂

We do, for sure! I feel like at some point I stopped writing about any advocacy at all. I am aiming for one cathartic post a month that gives more meat and delves deeper.

Sometimes we do get so overwhelmed with things to do for the new year, creating goals that in the long run, is something we cannot achieve. My dream is to write a book, and I have been putting off that task since 2013. I know I can do it. I WILL do it. (The power of positive thinking!)
Have a blessed New Year!

I think challenges are good, if you can keep focused and on track. I’ve joined so many of those photo a day challenges for Instagram and failed miserably…
