No matter how much we try, there will always be some problem with the house. Leaking sinks, rusty pipes, rotten wood of window frames are just some of the issues that need to be fixed.
Having your own home is a great thing, however; it is also a big commitment. It takes a lot of your time and money, but it doesn’t have to be ALL of your time and money. Like with many other things, if you notice the problem in due time, you will be able to repair it quickly and with little to no investment.
Here are some of the things that need to be maintained regularly to maximize their use:
Pavement
When you mention home repairs, people rarely think of pavement in front of their home. However, this is definitely a part of your house where you can save a lot of money. Over the course of time, cracks will appear within it. But, the problem doesn’t lie in these small cracks. It lies in the fact that they will increase in time and pose even greater issue for your budget. As the winter comes, ice will start filling these holes and expanding within the pavement. This will increase them and in terms, increase the cost you need to pay for repairing it.
Garage door springs
There are many things that can go wrong with your garage doors. However, springs are usually the biggest issue here. Sooner than later, you will have to replace them. Nevertheless, you are able to prolong their life expectancy with regular maintenance. By putting lube on them from time to time, you are ensuring that they stay functional for much more than intended.
Pool and equipment
In terms of maintenance, pool is perhaps the most troublesome. It takes forever to prepare it for season and to protect it when the season is over. If you love to take a nice dip, this price will be more than worth it. Besides regular cleaning, it is necessary to winterize your pool. Ice and debris can do a lot of damage to it. Also, it is necessary to remove the pumps and place them in shed or some other storeroom. Even though there are long-lasting such as Onga and Davey, it is better not to take any risks and expose them to bad weather.
Refrigerator
Like many other home appliances, there is a way to properly maintain your refrigerator and increase its life expectancy. Alas, only a small number of people take the necessary precautions. When it comes to this appliance, the problem comes in a form of coils. These coils are positioned in the back of the refrigerator. They need to be cleaned every once in a while. Otherwise, fridge may work overtime due to the dust which will endanger its motor and increase energy consumption.
Window frames
One of the main reasons why it feels so cold during the winter is due to window frames. Simply put, there may be draft coming outside due to rotten wood or holes between the frame and house. It is necessary to remedy the issue as soon as possible as lack of isolation will increase your heating bills. Either replace the frames (if they are the issue) or use silicone to patch the holes.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to home maintenance. Basically, as a home owner, it is necessary to keep a watch on all the damage done to your home and home appliances. By reacting promptly, you will be able to cut most of the costs and create a nice environment for your family.
What’s on your list of home care needs?
Mine? A ROOF!
I feel that we are always making repairs on the house. Home ownership is a never ending commitment and expense
So true! But, on the bright side, I LOVE owning my own home!
Amazing post. This may help to make our house so presentable to our guests or visitors. thank you for sharing this to us 🙂
I hope it does!
Tell me about it! Homes are like people, they age and need constant care and repair. We are constantly fixing things, replacing things and making decisions on what to let alone. It’s a big job when you have an older home … just like aging folks. We love them and it’s work. <3
I love the way you said that! Exactly!
I had no idea you had to put so much care into a home. I’ll definitely be checking my refrigerator coils. I’ll keep these in mind for when I have a home of my own.
Plus, you have family to help 😉
Great tips! Own a house now but soon to sell, so it’s so important to keep it up to shape no matter what! Take pride in your home
It is! I always say take care of it little by little, every day, so you don’t end up with HUGE issues!
My home care needs is more about decluttering. I need to really start getting rid of all the clutter that I’ve accumulated. I began doing this by just throwing away the little things I’ll never use each weekend. Old herbs and spices, old books, gifts I’ll never use; etc.
It’s great to know where you need to start!!!
If I had to be honest my home became clean when I bought a steam cleaning machine. It helps me on every corner, from bathroom to the windows, everything!
Great ideas! I think the house becomes a home when we maintain and keep it clean and cozy. Thanks
Love this post! Definitely some great tips and advice on regular home maintenance that most people wouldn’t think about, such as cleaning the coils on the back of your fridge. Thanks for sharing!

These are great tips 😍😍😍😍. We have a big problem in Florida with moisture getting in between the double pane windows. Have to always keep an eye on them.

Chelley, you so right on keeping your garage door springs lubed. Just be sure to get one that’s specifically for garage door spring use. Also, I love your PINK shutters. They are so pretty. Did you paint them or did they come like that? Have a great day.
