One of the perks to living on the outskirts of a major city? All the good shows! A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, NOW PLAYING at The Providence Performing Arts Center, has restored my faith in musical comedy.
I was given the opportunity to see the show in return for my review, and I am thrilled for the opportunity. A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder is a lavish show. It started off with a bit of skepticism… but once you’ve met the crew of this small but complete cast, the tongue-in-cheek humor is plentiful! From the facial expressions to the delivery of catchy, nearly raunchy tunes, the satire is ingenious, providing sophisticated, deadpan humor that provides a night of absolute enjoyment.
The music and cast of characters, paired with the luxuriant costumes and sets are just perfection! It’s truly no wonder it won the Tony for Best Musical in 2014! The set is small and compact, but the visuals are perfection. With each detail put into the imagery, the audience is left wanting to know… how will it happen next!
…and who did poison him?
Here’s a little bit more about the show:
Getting away with murder can be so much fun… and there’s no better proof than the knock-‘em-dead hit show that’s earned unanimous raves and won the 2014 Tony Award® for BEST MUSICAL — A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER!
GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE tells the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, an heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession by—you guessed it—eliminating the eight pesky relatives who stand in his way. All the while, Monty has to juggle his mistress (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (she’s his cousin but who’s keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance… and be done in time for tea. The Hollywood Reporter raves, “GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE RESTORES OUR FAITH IN MUSICAL COMEDY” and The New York Times cheers, “IT WILL LIFT THE HEARTS OF ALL THOSE WHO’VE BEEN PINING FOR WHAT SOMETIMES SEEMS A LOST ART FORM.” Kindly get your tickets now for the musical that will have you dying with laughter.
This killer comedy is at Providence Performing Arts Center through December 11th. You can get your tickets HERE!

I wish I lived nearby. This looks like a great experience. The closest thing to a show that my rural town’s got is the high school play! Haha 😉

Some of the high school plays are getting BIG production!

In addition to its humorous bent, I see that it is also a Tony award winning show so that got my attention as well. What a great outing!
