History has a way of teaching us life lessons… sometimes in the most unorthodox ways.
“Let them eat cake” is the traditional translation of the French phrase “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche“, supposedly spoken by “a great princess” upon learning that the peasants had no bread. Since brioche was a luxury bread enriched with butter and eggs, the quote would reflect the princess’s disregard for the peasants, or at least a complete lack of understanding that the absence of basic food staples was due to poverty rather than a lack of supply.

The lack of basic food staples.
That truly resonates with me, as I watch my children eat the three broccoli pieces, 6 slices of carrot, and spoonful of peas I’ve piled into the veggie section of their plates. They aren’t pushing them away- that never flies in this house, but they’re not thrilled with the trio, as they’ve had it already twice in the past 5 days. I switch it up often, but wouldn’t it be nice to see them EXCITED about the veggies on their plates?!
With both kids it tow, I headed to Stop & Shop before dinner to checkout what would complete our Monday night dinner rush. With rotini and meatballs already prepped, I walked the natural foods aisle for something new. Lo and behold, leave it to my sweet Addie to point out a sale AND Millie to point out the chocolate!
So, we chose 2 to try… “one for dinner and one for breakfast” Addie explained. I was skeptical, except that the first two ingredients in each muffin type are the veggies I so desperately want my babies to have and love. Gleefully, my girls love their healthy foods, though they can sometimes be a struggle to get in enough. When those same foods are presented in a new, exciting way- you can count this mama IN!
Garden Lites are made with more than clean, simple ingredients- they deliver the nutrition we seek for ourselves and our children with convenience and taste! Each product is allergy-friendly, as well as gluten, dairy and nut free- making them ideal to keep around for friends, too. Making sure that we have something on hand for others who can’t eat everything is important to our family. Inclusion on all fronts!
So, what does chocolate on the plate have to do with feeding good, clean, healthy foods to my family? This special treat is the perfect dessert option- or on the plate after a busy day! You will never know that the first two ingredients in these Garden Lites Chocolate Muffins are zucchini and carrots! They’re both an amazing source of fiber and protein, and a delicious moist chocolate cake. For only 120 calories, I even had one myself!
The simplest breakfast for my sleepy girls are the Garden Lites Blueberry Muffins. First two ingredients? Zucchini and carrots! They’re easy and fast to prepare, giving my sweet, blueberry loving kids ideal nutrition in a pinch! Children thrive when they’re able to eat something more than cereal from a cup on the way to school and activities. And me? I love knowing I’ve given my ladies a great head start on the day with a truly healthy breakfast!
I found my Garden Lites Muffins at Stop & Shop! You can find yours in the freezer section of your nearest Publix, Stop & Shop, Giant, Shop-Rite, HEB, Kroger or Costco, as well! Don’t forget your $1 off coupon, too! Which kind do you think your family will be the most excited about? Which ones can’t YOU wait to try? Let me know in the comments!

My oldest is the picky eater in the house. “Cauliflower agaaaaain?” I need to nab some of these muffins to sneak a few more veggies in without the complaints and eye rolls.

I hope I can find some of these in Canada. My daughter is an adult now but she and her husband are living with me right now and there are very few vegetables they like. (MY daughter LOVED almost all of them when she was little). They get sick all the time and I really think they need a healthier diet for their immune systems. Ideas like this would give me more options to share with them to get those veggies in!
Chelley @ A is for Adelaide says
I hope you can find them!

My boys will eat vegetables. However, they don’t eat as many as they should. Something that looks like dessert might be a great fit.
