Anyone who uses beauty products knows that the worst part about them is facing the price tag on your favorite or even preferred products. You may use that mascara every day, but paying over ten dollars for it means that you’re taking a big chunk of money out of your wallet for a tiny tube of makeup. It can be defeating, even if you purchase what you need while your eyeliner is winged to perfection.
So what can you do to get the most use out of your beauty products? There are some simple hacks you can try to see if you can pull an extra few uses out of your favorite brands. By the time you have to go back to the store for more, you’ll have an extra couple bucks in your pocket that’ll make checking out a much less painful experience.
1. Don’t Let That Lipstick Bleed
Lipstick is an iconic beauty product that many use to make them look more professional, more pulled together. It’s often worn all day, every day, and those who use it frequently know that given time, it’ll smear and bleed past your lip line.
The next time you put lipstick on, apply some foundation around your lips. You’ll find that the lipstick will stay on your lips during times when it would normally seem to melt away. Not only does this save you from looking like a vampire, but it’ll also save you money. Not having to reapply your lipstick ten times a day will make it last longer and save you some extra pocket change.
2. Lighten With Lemons
Instead of going back to the hair stylist for another $80 coloring session, mix lemon juice and water and spray onto your hair wherever you want to lighten. Go outside in the sun for a few hours and after you get back inside, you’ll noticed that you look like you just went to the salon (without spending all the money).
3. Line Your Eyes with Mascara
Running out of eyeliner is the worst, especially if it happens while one eye is done and the other isn’t. If this happens to you, don’t run out to your nearest drugstore. Swipe your eyeliner brush along your mascara wand and keep applying. It’ll take a minute to get used to it, but you’ll find that mascara can be a great eyeliner in a time of crisis.
4. Grated Manicure
Going to the nail salon can be so relaxing, but you may not have the time or the money to go as often as you like. Painting your own nails is easy but routine, and there are certain looks you may like to get done on your nails that make it clear you had them done by someone else. Make your home a nail salon by painting your favorite nail colors onto a makeup sponge so that they fade into each other, like a rainbow. Press onto each nail and let dry for a fabulous look.
5. Put Your Hair Up
Wearing your hair up can be a big problem solver for any beauty problem you face. Say you’ve done your makeup perfectly but something still feels off. Style your hair in a bun and you’ll find that all is right again. Hair too short to pull back? You always have the option of playing around with some hair extensions! Most companies now offer a variety of professionally and ethically sourced hair that are sure to last a long time.
6. Puff Up and Pucker Up
In recent years, it’s become a big beauty trend to have pillowy lips. Many lip gloss products advertise that by spending fifteen dollars on a tube of their gloss, you’ll have big lips in no time. Skip the big price tag and go straight to the source. Many companies put peppermint oil in their lip gloss because it’s a stimulating oil that puffs up lips naturally. Put a few drops in the lip gloss you have at home and you’ll save yourself a lot of trouble.
7. DIY Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo can be such a lifesaver, which also means that you go through it quickly. Instead of spending money you can’t afford on such an essential beauty product, make your own instead. Mix cornstarch and essential oil together and work through your hair to have grease-free clean hair all day long. You’ll be so glad that you tried it when it saves you that extra cash.
8. Repair Your Manicure with a Rubber Band
Getting a manicure can be a great way to splurge on some self-care, but what happens when the nail polish chips just days after getting it done? Don’t grab your nail polish remover! Instead, wrap a rubber band around your nail and repaint over what chipped. You’ll save yourself a lot of time and money while still enjoying that new manicure.
When your beauty routine has to be interrupted with another trip to the store, it can make it all seem like a waste of time when you pull out that debit card again. Try out some temporary beauty hacks to help get you through to your next paycheck, without sacrificing the beauty tricks that make you feel like you can take on the world.
