When mama visits, time simultaneously slows to a crawl and days lose hours. Dinner seems to take forever to make, but the conversation at the table never lasts long enough…
And dinner is my favorite. First dinner, to be specific. My mom visits a few times a year so we can go to the theater together, and that first day she arrives, over 300 miles from my childhood home, is [typically] right before dinner. And I love a good family dinner. So tonight we gathered, us girls enjoyed a beautiful bottle of Field House White Wine Blend, and made pizza.
We laughed about Facebook status background mistakes, discussed ways to streamline paperwork, writing meaningful words for dear friends… we hugged the girls and shared a box of crackers… it was a perfect meal together. My mama and me. A relationship we have to nurture and cultivate. We must grow with it and learn to give and take. So much alike that we could end up on opposite ends of a fight if we didn’t work so hard to be a super power. And when we have a bottle of wine and good food, our bond is that deep seeded kind that only comes from complete satiation of the mind, belly, and soul.
My Field House White Wine Blend was actually just delivered from Scout & Cellar earlier this afternoon. Immediately I put it in the refrigerator to have with dinner tonight. It is the perfect wine for summer. Light bodied, with bright acidity on the nose and palette and a dry finish. The well balanced white is a perfect pairing with our fresh mozzarella and fresh vegetable pizza. I added quite a bit of garlic for the perfect bite, but it felt like butter with a sip of wine, great conversation, and my mama standing in my kitchen next to me.
I hope your Friday night was a perfect pairing, too.
