My sister, Jessica, is 7 years older than me- the difference often being a cause of distance. She’s the blonde to my brunette, the big smile to my oddly round face, the preppy to my punk. She’s been a guide, a hero… My big sister has always been my rock- I’ve looked up to her ever since I can remember, but being 1,400 miles away makes birthdays hard. So so hard.
To pick a birthday gift for my sister has never been easy for me- I’ve never quite hit the nail on the head, but where we are in life, I feel like the perfect thing would be to have a cup of coffee and good conversation. To see where we are now in our lives- I feel so close, but the distance remains. For me, that means a lot of wanting. Wanting to see her, tell her all the things that the kids are doing. Share in vacations and talk about marriage. I want to know my nephews better. I want to know her better. But for all the talking I want to do, I can’t ever find the words. For that, I turn to Hallmark Cards.
Hallmark has always brought forth the beginning of what I want to say:
Life really is a journey-
and it’s not always easy to know
which maps to trust
or what to pack for the trip.
But whatever the weather,
wherever the road leads,
the best possible traveling advice
would be this:
BRING A SISTER.
In this moment, nothing could be truer. Life is a crazy journey for us… and while our lives are different from each other, they’re traveling a similar path. Marriage, 2 children, forever homes, the balance of life and work. We may not be hand-in-hand, but we are doing this together, and I love that I found a card that summed it all up inside: I’m so glad to be sharing the journey with you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Reflecting on our relationship, having long conversations and seeing each other are not things we often partake in, but sending love and a smile to my big sister means the world to me.
While shopping for my sister isn’t easy, I know that her busy days start with a good cup of coffee, so I slid a giftcard in her card before mailing it down to Florida. Walmart has such a great selection of gift items, so while there I stocked up on Hallmark Cards starting at 47¢.
I like to have cards on hand for parties that we get invited to (just adding my own special note on the inside makes it much more personal), as well as for those birthdays that creep up on us! …like my awesome brother-in-law, Steve! His birthday was Sunday and I was so thankful I had the perfect card on hand:
I like to print a calendar of everyone’s birthdays, and then shop for their cards all at once. Hallmark Cards starting at 47¢ means I can have the right thing to say for the right price and the trusted Hallmark sentiment. I also grab a few extra cards for birthdays that pop up- new friends, last minute celebrations and co-workers spouses love having a special message for them on their celebratory days! I keep these extra cards in my stationary drawer, and it keeps me on track throughout the year- always having the perfect birthday cards to send means that even when I can’t see my friends and loved ones, I can still send a smile.
Follow Hallmark on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, IG and YouTube for more creative ideas on how you can send smiles with Hallmark Cards starting at 47¢.
How do you remember to send birthday cards?

It has been a while since I either sent or received an actual card in the mail. Which is a shame! Cards really do make a person’s day a bit brighter and Hallmark has some perfect ones for any occasion.

I love Hallmark and always buy their cards for my friends and family. Since we live far from most of our family, these cards mean more, especially when my daughter gets the recordable cards. She loves hearing the voices of her grand aunts, uncles, and aunties.

Cards have gotten so expensive. They’re almost more expensive then the present you put with the, I have stopped giving cards because it costs half the price of a present. Thank you Hallmark for bringing meaningful cards at an affordable price.

I often wonder how different our experiences would be if we were “doing life” with our loved ones that don’t live close by. It’s awesome that you have such a strong connection with your sister and I love that such simple things as a card and cup of coffee are the ideal gift! #client
