Our New Year’s Party was all about what 2016 will be for us… togetherness. With friends piled into our new home, we counted down the new year with laughter, good food, and a new favorite movie (that comes out on DVD today!!!).
The whole family was so excited to see Hotel Transylvania 2! We meant to see it in theaters, but Addie’s hearing is still not regulated enough to handle the volume of a theater. As to not overwhelm her, movie nights at the house are way more fun- adding a few theme foods and decorations make it seem like a special experience each time- just for her. Having hearing issues isn’t a fun thing… but movie nights are a blast- especially on New Year’s Eve!
I prepared a spread specific to our movie, including (s)cream cheese and celery, fingers (carrots), eyeballs (grapes) and a very special indulgence popcorn eye balls with M&M’S® Chocolate Candies! Serving Coca-Cola as a treat for my bestie’s oldest son (and all of us adults), we all sat down and enjoyed watching Mavis and Johnny all grown up… with a son!
My popcorn balls are delicious… my secret to keeping them moist and chewy: Orville Redenbacher Movie Theater Popcorn. I keep them small, so the portion is perfect for tiny hands and little bellies that just need a bit of sweetness to satisfy- the perfect delicacy to enjoy while watching Hotel Transylvania 2!
In the newest installment of Hotel Transylvania, Dracula has opened the Hotel Transylvania’s doors to humans- it’s fun to see that things are changing for the better- or are they? Drac is worried his half-human grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing his vampire side. (Oh no!) Mavis and Johnny are away (all parents deserve a break, right?), so Drac enlists his friends to put Dennis through a monster-in-training boot camp… and then his dad stops by.
So, ready to make your popcorn balls and settle in to watch? You will need
- 1 Orville Redenbacher Movie Theater Popcorn
- 3T butter
- 1 (10 oz.) bag mini marshmallows
- ½t vanilla extract
- 1c M&M’S® Chocolate or Peanut Candies
- Eyeball candies (available at WalMart in the baking supplies aisle)
To begin, pop your Orville Redenbacher Movie Theater Popcorn. My biggest tip is to pull out all of the unpopped kernels so they don’t get mixed into your final product, then set aside.
In a heavy bottom saucepan, melt your butter, then cook until it turns to a golden brown color. Be sure to stir with a wooden spoon so that the butter doesn’t cook too fast and burn.
Add your marshmallows, and stir constantly until marshmallows have just melted, then remove your pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla.
Fold in your pop corn and M&M’S® gently, so they don’t crush too much. Then set your bowl aside for a few minutes to cool…
And then the best part–> once your mix is cool enough, lightly spray your hands with nonstick cooking spray. Using a 1/3 measuring cup, scoop the mix and roll it into a ball. Smoosh a candy eyeball or two into each ball for a silly treat!
Set each popcorn ball onto a sheet of wax paper to cool.
ENJOY!
