Cooking with my girls is such a blessing! They both LOVE the kitchen, and while having helpers with me (hello Life Lessons), it’s not always the simplest of tasks.
This weekend we were fortunate enough to have a full home, when friends came over for dinner, and we had a fabulous pizza party, complete with homemade dough!
- 2 1/2c flour
- 2 3/4t baking powder
- 1t salt
- 1T oil
- 1c water
- Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium mixing bowl.
- Add 3/4c of water and the oil. Stir.
- If your dough is too thick, add the remaining water. Your dough should be soft, but not sticky.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 3-4 minutes.
- Spread over a lightly oiled pizza stone, add toppings.
- Bake at 400*F for 15-25 minutes, until crust is lightly browned.
One of my favorite things about making pizza with the kids, is giving them autonomy over what they eat. Of course… there’s always an excess of cheese requests, but more than that, there is tasting, trying, and a whole bunch of experimenting. And that, to me, is what cooking is all about, right?
This dough is so easy to make- it takes less than 10 minutes- and you don’t need to wait for it to rise!
What you need:
2½c Flour
2¾t Baking powder
1t Salt
1T Oil
1c Water
With your flour, baking powder, salt, oil and water measured out, get yourself a medium mixing bowl.
Add all of your dry ingredients together, combining well.
Then add your oil and 3/4 of the cup of water, and mix. If your dough seems too dry, add the remaining water.
Continue to mix until a nice ball of dough is formed.
Sprinkle a thin layer of flour out on your counter and knead your dough for 3-4 minutes before rolling it out and placing on your pizza stone.
How easy was that?
Now you’re ready to party!
Pizza Party
My favorite things to set out include black olives, thinly sliced onion, sliced fresh mushrooms, peppers, and sliced fresh tomatoes. All of these things give the kids a whole bunch of veggies to choose from… and there are never any leftovers! Unused toppings make the best “while you wait for the pizza to cook” snack!
Just put each of your toppings in their own bowls and let the kids make their own!
Clean up with kids…
While having a pizza party with friends is always a good time, I am often left with a bit of a mess- from the stove to the stone.
If you’ve ever used stoneware, you know that it can be a sensitive beast. Caring for your pizza stone includes NEVER submerging it in water. In theory, this isn’t so hard… except when you have kids who make a messy pizza, there is a lot to clean. Because pizza stones are so porous, they absorb flavors, so it is important to clean it well… sans soap!
For this job, I only trust ocelo™ No-Scratch Scrub Sponges. They are ideal for cleaning all delicate surfaces, and let me use just one tool when cleaning up from our pizza parties instead of 3! Once my pizza stone is cooled, instead of using a scraper or a stiff brush to scrape off the food and then wiping it down with a damp cloth, I use my sponge! One side of the ocelo no-scratch sponge is rough, which I use dry to scrape off any left over food. I then run my sponge under a trickle of warm water and wipe down the stone.
No soap. No fuss. Easy clean up! Right?
The stove:
The thing is, I never thought of a stove as a sensitive thing. In our old house, however, I went at our stove with some reckless abandon and managed to damage the top! I was so upset about it… thankfully, our buyer didn’t care. But, I vowed to be a bit more loving to my appliances in our new home.
I quickly learned that everything in a kitchen scratches. The dishwasher front, the window on the microwave. Everything. Using a heavy-duty sponge left lines all over the place, minor scratches, that I know, over time, will just look messy even when clean.
Since this a-ha moment, I switched ALL of my cleaning to ocelo No-scratch Scrub Sponges. Sometimes there are stuck on things all over my wooden cabinets, door handles, microwave plate- you name it. And I never have to worry about sacrificing my surfaces for the sake of clean. Using one tool for all of these surfaces makes clean up easy- whatever the mess.
Except Millie. We need a fire hose for her.
Give it a sparkle!
ocelo™ no-scratch scrub sponges are available in 6 packs from Target, and you can save $0.50 off one ocelo Scrub Sponge Multi-pack NOW! Keep one in the kitchen and bathrooms to protect all of your surfaces from scratches while keeping them at their cleanest!
My most precious, delicate surfaces are my wedding flutes. Easily and lovingly cleaned with my no-scratch sponges. What’s a delicate surface in your home that you’ll be cleaning and protecting with ocelo no-scratch sponges?

My son just helped make some cookies with me tonight. I love cooking with him and giving him some independence when it comes to food. But the messes can definitely be intimidating so it’s nice to have a product around that’s a big help when it comes to cleaning it all up.

Amen to that! Cooking with kids is such a blessing… and then a nightmare!

After-party cleanup is always the worst. Especially when you have to do it all by yourself!

That’s for sure!

Love you’re getting your kids cooking so young. It’s hard for me to let them experiment & figure things out in the kitchen, rather than just doing it myself. Now the clean up would be much easier a chore for me to share!

The boys love to help make pizza (when I let them!) Those sponges look awesome for getting things clean, too.
