The majority of parents seek for the expert consultation when they fail to understand their child’s behavior. Knowing a child undoubtedly plays the crucial role in parenting. But, the question is how someone should learn to understand any child?
First of all, you should believe that knowing your child is not a task but an art. You can develop this skill in three easy steps: observation, focus, and inspiration.
Observe them carefully:
One method to understand your child is to watch them carefully. You can see their habits as they eat, play, or sleep.
Look for the compatible qualities such as:
• fastidious versus understanding
• being sociable versus bashful
• happy versus stressed
• focused versus inattentive
• jaunty versus careful
It is just a sample list that includes various aspects of human behavior. You can further extend this list as per the requirements.
If you are still confused and don’t understand how to create one such list for your kid, then try another method.
Ask these questions to yourself:
• What kind of activities do interest your child?
• How do they react to the changes, new environments, or situations?
These common signs in a child’s nature describe unusual behaviors, preferences, and interests according to his or her actual personality. It is the first step to understanding your teenager.
Focus on the positive sides:
Being optimistic or keeping an active mind always bring exceptional results in our day to day life. The same thing goes with the child development. If you are willing to understand your child better, then you must focus on the positive sides of their personality.
No matter what kind of response you receive from a kid, try to concentrate on the positive sides.
Be an inspiration:
Before you try this method, I want to ask you- how do you talk with your child? Or wait, my actual question would be “do you really talk with your child?”
Yes, communication is the key to success. The majority of parents believe that asking numerous questions to a child can help solve the issue. But, we cannot call it a “better communication.” Instead, we will call it an interrogation.
If you are asking a question, then try to highlight the actual subject in your question. For example, instead of asking if he or she has played with the friend or not, focus on the sport they participated. Ask him how much score he made in today’s cricket match.
In short, it is as simple as becoming a part of their play.
Remember, each of your questions should have the touch of inspiration. Reserve some time from your busy schedule to communicate with your kids.
These are the three necessary steps to learn the skill of understanding your child. You can nourish the child-mother relationship by learning the fundamental terms involved in child development such as teaching your child the value of patience, improving the language learning skills of your child, etc.
