Hi Chelley,
First of all, both you and Addie are beautiful, clearly inside and out and I have been touched reading about your story and your journey. I came across your blog (love it!) in searching about achondroplasia …our story is kinda long so I\’ll try to make it short. My husband Brian and I just had a son Zachary a few months ago – in utero they thought he had achondroplasia because his limbs were measuring short and the neonatalogist thought he had frontal bossing, but after testing (via amnio) and once he was born (microarray – he had other minor issues so they were checking for other stuff) all tests have come back negative – he was then born premature and still quite small for his gestational age. We may eventually do genetic testing both for him and for future pregnancies but we\’re holding off for now. We have definitely had our own roller coaster of events and emotions (and uncertainties), but he\’s doing great now and we are head over heels in love with our little guy…(sorry that wasn\’t so short but I felt like I should explain some).
Anyway, the reason I\’m writing (late at night when I should be getting sleep:)) is that I just came across a posting/ad that someone on the local Mommies forum I subscribe to just posted:
need of a dwarf/small person – not a joke, unfortunately

HMs,
I\’m embarrassed to ask, but I\’m on the hunt for a certain kind of small person to help with an event I\’m professionally planning.
This event has a sideshow/carnival theme and will include fire breathers, belly dancers, sword swallowers, oddities, ya know the Burning Man-type of talented performers.
The host is insistent upon having a dwarf be a part of the cast. They could have a talent like juggling or hooping or anything, or they will be utilized somewhere to greet the guests.
If you know of anyone, or a friend of a friend that might be interested in this, it\’s for an event in 2 weeks….
Please pass along my name and contact:
I was flabbergasted to read this and am not sure if I\’ll respond but a big part of me wants to (even though its not like me to – I usually avoid conflict:)). I know that with our experience and reading a fair amount online, I am more sensitive to this issue, but I was shocked that this could be happening in my neighborhood/city and isn\’t just in the movies (am i naive?). Or am I overreacting? It just seems wrong. Ugh!
I have been impressed with your writing and was just wondering, I guess, if you had any advice as to how to appropriately and succinctly respond (if I decide to!!). Any suggestions? I just cringed reading the post and felt compelled to do something so I decided to write to you at least!
By the way, there a few random \”coincidences\” I came across in reading about Addie – she was born exactly one year before Zach (April 17 – also my best friends birthday!), my twin sister had picked out the name Addie for a girl (well Adeline really but still it\’s similar…and I love the name too) (she only has boys so far) and my last name is Martin (yours is Martinka) – kinda crazy?!? ๐
Aaaaaaanyway, sorry for the long email but I hope it\’s ok that I reached out to you. I would love to hear back from you if you get a chance.
Thank you,
Angie (Martin)
