When I was asked to support a show to be hosted at the Jamestown Community Theatre, I asked myself: how could I not? Always a part of the show… or lighting crew- I am a huge fan of the theater, even spending my internship in the marketing department of the Philadelphia Theatre Company! So… what am I more excited for than football? An afternoon spent with Dave and Addie seeing Dear Edwina.
Here’s their press release about the family show:
(Jamestown, RI; October 2013) –Tickets now are on sale for The Jamestown Community Theatre’s November musical production, DEAR EDWINA, and for the first time in the theatre’s history, JCT has rolled back its prices to its 1990 ticket costs as a way to give back to the community for over two decades of support. The musical is by Zina Goldrich (music) and Marcy Heisler (book and lyrics) – the same team that created Junie B. Jones, The Musical and other equally successful productions.
This lively production chronicles the adventures of Edwina Spoonapple, advice-giver extraordinaire, who wows her neighbors in Paw Paw, Michigan, via original musical extravaganzas performed in the Spoonapple Family garage. A spunky, singing version of Dear Abby, told through a show-within-a-show format, Edwina and her friends share wisdom on everything from trying new foods to making new friends through clever, catchy and poignant songs. The show unfolds like a virtual block party and will delight children, teens, and adults.
“JCT’s production of DEAR EDWINA will have everyone singing along with the contagious music sung by the talented cast,” remarked JCT Artistic Director Mary S. Wright. “I’m delighted to return after a year hiatus to direct this production; I certainly agree with the critics who praised the writers as “the most gifted new writing team of their musical theatre generation.” JCT is very lucky to bring their fresh, bright, witty and accessible musical to The Ocean State.”
DEAR EDWINA will be directed by Mary S.Wright With Assistant Director, Annie Mcintyre. Susan Fuquea, Stephanie Cotsanos and Lisa Rafferty are Co-producers. Co-Choreographers are Mary Wright and Carol Hopkins, and Matt Bolles is the Musical Director with Walter Sage as his assistant and the cast’s Accompanist; Costume Designer is Dori Hirsch and Chairman of Set Design is Maryann England. Steve Farrelly chairs Set Construction. There are many other talented and creative volunteers associated with this production.
All performances will be at The Jamestown Recreation Center located at 41 Conanicus Ave, Jamestown, R.I.
JCT encourages audiences to buy tickets early this season since prices are lower than usual.
Tickets can be purchased now in Jamestown at Baker’s Pharmacy, Cathryn Jamieson Salon, The Conanicut Marine Store, and The Secret Garden. In Newport, tickets will be at Pleasant Surprise and in Wickford at Midnight Sun. Seniors (65 and older please) and children/students (18 and under) ticket prices will be $5.00 in advance; regular adult tickets will be $10.00. Both ticket prices will increase to $7.00 and $12.00 tickets if purchased at the door. For more information, people should call 401- 423-2121.
About The Jamestown Community Theatre
The Jamestown Community Theatre (JCT) is a non-profit organization committed to fostering the growth of arts, culture, social awareness, and the education of Jamestown’s young people through the joint involvement of youth and adults in the theater experience. Existing under the Jamestown Recreation Department and overseen by an active board of directors, all those who make up the cast and crew — from the backstage to lighting to set construction to costumes to promotions — are Jamestown residents. JCT began in 1990 as the dream of Mary Wright and Patricia Vandal, two great admirers of the creative arts. Today, JCT celebrates 23 years of community creative arts in November 2013 and boasts over 35 successful productions.
