I received a pair of Dear Kate underwear for my review. All opinions are, of course, my own- and not swayed by outside sources.
I love to run. I love the feeling- freedom, power, strength. And more than that, I love being fit while pregnant, like it’s the first step in caring for my baby-to-be. However, due to the past, I’ve been told no running while pregnant… but not much keeps me from the road, so I jog.
This past weekend I jogged the Gaspee Days 5k in Pawtuxet Village (RI), my second 5k this pregnancy. It was humid, hot and my breathing was interrupted often–> for the love of all things holy- IF YOU’RE ON A RACE COURSE, PLEASE DON’T SMOKE! While I do love a good 5k, and can’t imagine doing much more, getting a good sweat in is awesome… and leaves me glistening, but there’s more to being pregnant than the glow, the swelling of the belly and the sweet waddle that replaces the walk in the days of nearing labor.
No, more than that is the LBL. I would say I am embarrassed by it, but for me, it’s really just a mile 2 thing, or a mid-way through yoga class… or if you make me laugh really hard. And you know you think it’s funny (just a bit) that I have an issue. Running though all the thoughts in your head, trying to figure out what LBL stands for?
Light Bladder Leakage.
It’s cool. I’m a mom. I had a vaginal delivery at a teaching hospital. I’m sure more people have seen, examined, or otherwise been closer to my nether-regions than I’d like to acknowledge… and still I live to laugh about it. What’s most different about this pregnancy is my bladder! I feel totally confident, until I’ve been active for a while, and then I’m like “WOAH!” So, I decided to make a plan and contacted Dear Kate.
Cheerfully, they returned my email quickly, and an athletic, comfortable and fully lined pair of their undies came packaged to my door in less than a week!

The night before my race, I laid out my clothes and got to bed early. Because there is no packet pickup beforehand, I knew I would have to push to get out of the house on-time to grab my bib.
I was up and ready to go, dressed, hydrated and ready to go. So I went. Then I was ready to leave the house! We headed to the race where I pinned my bib on and lined up, ready for the 3.1 miles that lay ahead in the heat. But by mile 2, I was feeling it. Ready to give up, I walked the last big hill then made the final 3/4 of a mile a mission of jogging. Thankfully, I had a friend to run me in (we both made jokes about peeing our pants) and there it was. A 45min39sec finish.
I’m not embarrassed to say, I did leak. I am thrilled to say that I ran through the chute, right to the porta-potty, and then headed to get an oil change with total confidence.
I got home, showered, and went about my day- feeling incredibly blessed to have been able to race, while pregnant, and keep everything under control. Pregnancy is more than just a glow, a growing belly, and the joys of parenthood… it’s also about still feeling beautiful, confident, and strong. I like the look of those undies. If I wore them I think I would feel a bit like a superhero, and since I am a mom, some days I actually tackle some pretty tough tasks with 3 kids.

This seems a great brand! I suggest you back it up with a reusable and washable menstrual cloth or a menstrual cup when you are experience heavy flow during your period. This guarantees you total comfort, whatever activity you’re involved in.
Nice undies! They must be really comfy, huh?! This is important especially for a mom like you–to wear a super comfy panty.
