We loved going to San Diego, and thankfully, had not just a wonderful time there, but a great time getting there and back! Flying the friendly skies truly was a great experience for us!
When we arrived at Logan Airport in Boston, we got unloaded and went in. Without much of an issue, we went through security and wound up at this awesome play space for kids!
It was a little disappointing because some friends were over the height limit and suggested activity level for the space, but as a whole, it was a great space! Dave and Addie ran around a lot and got her energy out, which was perfect for the upcoming flight! We headed across the walk and into the family room where Addie got into her PJs and posed in front of the mirror for a bit.
Then we got on the plane! We took Alaska Airlines to San Diego and it was a fabulous experience! We were able to board before everyone else so we could get Addie’s seat settled, and they had some awesome headrests that you could curve to adjust for the sides of your head. These were awesome because then I didn’t have to worry about my head falling down when I slept and hurting my neck!
Alaska Airlines also has outlets for each seat, which makes charging devices easy! …and included a decent amount of space for our limbs and bags!
When we landed, it was LATE for us (about 3am), and about midnight on the West Coast. Thankfully, we’d all gotten a bit of a nap on the plane AND I’d booked Super Shuttle weeks before. While we only had a short wait for the shuttle, it was overbooked, meaning there was a person without a seatbelt, and our driver was… exuberant. Being that it was midnight on July 4th there was a lot of traffic- but our driver was keen to stay out of it… which meant weaving, speeding up and braking fast and lots of cutting through neighborhoods. In the end… we got to our hotel in one piece, and the price for the ride was unbeatable. I have no doubt that we were safe… just wish it hadn’t been such an exciting ride!
We’d taken the train up to Anaheim, so we flew out of Los Angles International Airport! As expected, the lines at LAX were a bit longer to get through to security. Thankfully we had preferred passes, and were able to head over to a shorter line. Of course, with a car seat and carry-on luggage and the like, we needed some extra moments to get shoes on and off and laptops out, but there was no rushing us and a lot of assistance from the staff. I was glad that no one was upset with us!
While we flew Alaska there, on the way back, we flew American Airlines. Their flight was super booked, so they asked anyone who could to check their carry-on. I was nervous, but offered up Addie’s bag and our rolling bag as well. They tagged our items and thanked us for helping, as well as helping us onto the plane early so we could get Addie settled in and what we had left with us stowed away.
After boarding, Addie fell asleep followed by myself, but when I woke up, about a catnap later, I was starving! Ooops. We’d had a mishap with some trail mix and all I really wanted was the salad I’d seen on the in-flight menu. Wanting me to be happy, Dave popped up and walked to the back of the plane. After he’d asked for the salad, he went to pull out his wallet, but the attendant held up his hand, “your wife is the woman who is pregnant and was sleeping?” “Yes,” he replied. The salad was all mine, and thanks to the wonderful customer service, it was also $10 saved (much needed!).
All-in-all, I loved both airlines and was really pleased with the ease of travel though Boston’s Logan, San Diego’s International (and their amazing outside bridge), as well as LAX airports!

What cracked me up is that you came to Boston from RI to fly to SD and we went from MA to RI to fly there from TF Green! LOL.
Travel is so strange. It was SO expensive to fly out of PVD in July… I wish we could have- way closer!!!

What a busy time for all of you yet fun for the family. I love that the airport provides an area for kids to unwind. Standing in a stuffy airport for extended periods of time can be exhausting and very boring!

WOW, I wish my flights were that nice! I did 24 hour trip from Idaho to Germany with two kids under 2 years old; and a recovering broken leg (still had to use a cane)..they took the cane away from me. And the double stroller that was keeping my adventurous babies from running around and I had to hobble with two babies. Not a lot of help. AND they wouldn’t let me board early either.
You definitely got a winner on this flight!

I have yet to fly with a child. My husband is afraid of flying, but I don’t think that will stop me and the rest of the family from getting to fun destinations. Never been on Alaskan airlines before.

Awe, what a cutie! I remember a good memory of flying – my son slept on the entire flight from our local airport to Hawaii. He was less than one year old, so I just held him on my lap the entire time while he napped. He was ready to party once we arrived at the beach after that extra long nap, though!
That is pretty awesome! I flew to Hawaii pregnant and it was really hard!

Frontier airlines, like 14 years ago..The in-flight announcement was the usual stuff no one listens to, and seeing this the flight attendant said “this is a no whining flight, if you start whining and have a complaint, just know that we don’t care”. It was tongue in cheek, meant to be funny, said with an actual wink. I thought it was hilarious, and these days, someone would’ve complained/filmed..The whole flight chuckled and had a pretty good time on the way from PDX to CHI.

I wish Alaska airlines had those chargers on all their planes. Must be just those for super long flights. But, I do like that kids with a car seat can pre-board so you can get them situated without a lot of pressure.

Just saw this post and have to say that I have always thought that Alaska was awesome. When my son was just a couple of months old (almost 18 years ago), my mother called to say my grandfather was in the hospital and I should try to get there as soon as I could. I rushed from work to grab my son and and friend drove me to the airport–just me, my son, a diaper bag and my purse. I had called ahead and booked a flight, but when I got to the airport, it was delayed. I asked if there was any way to get on the earlier flight and was told that it was completely booked with a waiting list. I admit I started to cry and explained my situation, they said they would see what they could do, but would definitely get me on the later flight (which was not delayed).
The next thing I knew, an Alaska Air employee came to me, said they found two seats on the flight and helped me on to the plane–pushing the stroller and getting it stowed for me. My seats were in the bulkhead, perfect with a car seat. All of a sudden I heard a group of people around me–traveling back from a business meeting–asking where two of their co-workers were. Someone made a comment that the airline had asked if anyone was willing to give up their seats and these two men did. I was shocked both at their generosity and that the airline would do that.
Upon arriving at my destination, I discovered that the remaining flights coming in were either cancelled or extremely delayed. I rushed to the hospital and my grandfather passed within an hour of my arrival. If it had not been for Alaska, and those two men, I would never had been able to say goodbye. I was devoted to Alaska forever after that experience!
That’s so great!
