“I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”
As you may have seen, I am training for the Jimmy Fund Walk in Boston next month, and I am doing so in the name of Erica Shea. Her battle was brief, but her impact is forever. Erica’s strength during her fight and bearing witness to the strength of her amazing family encourages me to continue my goals every single day.
Erica Shea was one of my birth doulas- her battle with breast cancer started when she was diagnosed with stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer at 14 weeks pregnant. Her fight ended just a few short weeks after the birth of her daughter, my milk baby Ella, but her name embodies strength, power and persistence. She was all that was right and just in the world, and she’s left her friends and family looking for ways to help share her message of love. For me, that’s giving back to families battling themselves- The people who need the most love and support, as they struggle for life.
There is so much left to be done for patients and families battling cancer, and the Jimmy Fund does so much for the cause. The Jimmy Fund for Dana-Farber is known for things like exceptional patient care and flexible funds for research discoveries which revolutionize cancer treatments both nationally and around the world. Of each donated dollar, ninety cents goes to the cause, assisting with things like insurance gap, clinical treatments, clinical trial support, state-of-the-art equipment, new research, infrastructure and technology, as well as helping advance Dana-Farber’s signature patient care and family support. Dana-Farber is known for their patient programs, such as support groups, nutrition education, the pediatric “Back to school Program,” fitness classes, creative arts programs, and patient and family resources. Your fundraising dollars will also go towards the Jimmy Fund Clinic toy closet and Dana-Farber Mammography Van- which helps care reach more communities. Your help is needed to continue their work, however.
Fundraising can seem daunting, but I promise you the tools are there to help you achieve your goal, and raise the funds that are vital to the research and patient care happening at Dana-Farber. There are also different reward levels… which made me excited! I got this awesome hat just the other day- perfect for sunny or rainy training days!
