As 2015 winds down, I am beginning to reflect on 2016, and the improvements I hope to make in my life. My 2016 word is autonomy… because I need to be more in control of me and my health.
With the girls’ activities, Dave’s work, and my own budding business, there isn’t much time for me, but this has proven to be a dangerous trap. I often feel run-down, tired, stressed, and I snap quite easily. This is my biggest weakness, as snapping at the kids is both poor parenting and detrimental to their emotional health. But where do I start?
If you’re like me, and I know so many of us parents are, we put everything and everyone in front of ourselves. Even the dog has the best of the best, from food to perfectly trimmed nails.
My emotional health is directly linked to my physical well-being, and that begins with self-care. In reality, it’s all about total body care- taking time to pause during the daily grind to check-in and tune up. I have a wonderful chiropractor, as well as masseuse, Amy, at Massage Envy. Good physical care is reliant on people who know the body, being proactive about pains we feel, and, better yet, catching the quirks before they quirk. It can be so hard to care for ourselves when, at the end of most days, you just want to shut down, but treating your body well shouldn’t be a luxury, which is why I have a monthly membership to Massage Envy. I decided to make “me” a priority in 2013 and I’ve never looked back.
Being a member means that I’ve automatically budgeted a 60 minute treatment for myself, so carving out the time is my only obstacle- easily overcome because Massage Envy is open 7 days a week. Their late hours make it easy to get my me time- recenter and relax… they make it easy to manage this thing we call living.
Your wellness journey begins with you finding your own because moment- moments that happen every single day. Whether it’s running late to work, burning dinner, or being stuck on a plane, life can be tough. Your body works hard for you and Massage Envy makes it simple to take care of you through every ache, pain and stress.
